A Palestinian website uploaded a leaked classified Israeli military report on a Hamas naval commando attack during Operation Protective Edge, which included previously omitted information about the attack and Israel Defense Forces specifics on weapon systems used to foil it. On July 8, four Hamas naval commandos infiltrated into Israel through Zikim beach, one mile north of the Gaza Strip. The attack was foiled and the four terrorists were killed, with the IDF Spokesperson's Unit shortly after posting an edited video of the incident in which the terrorists are seen struck from the sky. The video recently uploaded to YouTube, however, shows footage that Israeli media outlets had previously not broadcast. The report follows the Hamas terrorists as they advance while displaying IDF call signs for roads, observation units and weapon systems, as well as military codes used on the radio. The report also shows events in the incident that were not shown in the edited IDF Spokesperson's Unit video that was first broadcast. One such element was that when an IDF D9 armored bulldozer and tank approached the terrorists, one terrorist ran toward the tank and placed an explosive device under it. On the radio there were shouts "2 o'clock, he's on the tank! Drive!" Immediately afterward there was an explosion, but the tank's armor withstood the explosion and no damage was caused. The IDF never mentioned this in its reports to the media. The terrorists are then shown firing at the tank, but the soldiers inside were not harmed. In the end, the video shows how the terrorists are hit from the sky, using the call signs for IDF drones. The IDF released a statement saying the video is an "internal IDF debriefing report, whose leak is a serious incident that will be investigated and dealt with accordingly, not through the media."
The leaked video shows two of the Hamas terrorists exiting the water, with subtitles reading "identification of the second naval commando pair, one kilometer north of the [Gaza] border. It should be noted that the first pair landed on the beach and was not spotted by cameras."
