A New York Post gossip columnist reported earlier this month that she had been told that former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said that Israel will not exist in 10 years. In a column published by the New York Post on September 17, Cindy Adams wrote: "Reported to me, Henry Kissinger has stated and I quote the statement word for word: 'In 10 years, there will be no more Israel.'" The Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported on Monday that a staffer who works in Kissinger's New York office denied that her boss had made the quote. "It's not a misquote," Tara Butzbaugh was quoted as saying about Adams' column. "He didn't say it." Kissinger, a German-born Jew who moved with his family to the U.S. as a teenager, served as U.S. Secretary of State from 1973 to 1977 in the Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford presidential administrations. He played a key role bringing about the disengagement agreements that Israel reached with Egypt and Syria following the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
